Difficulty is a gameplay element in Cattails. There are five difficulty modes that can be changed at any time: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard. The difficulty level affects game stats: the amount of enemy damage, health, and hunger depletion.
The rate of hunger depletion depends on game mode. On Easy and V. Easy mode, hunger slowly depletes while on Hard and V. Hard mode, hunger rapidly depletes. The player will starve if they do not hunt, forage or buy enough food to eat.
Influence and Battles
The rate of rival colony activity depends on game mode. On Easy and V. Easy mode, rival colony influence is lower (5 - 8%) when awaking the next day. On Hard and V. Hard mode, rival colony influence is higher (20 - 30%). There are always two daily battles, regardless of mode. If the player has a custom colony, they can speak to Claudius to select one battle tile for the next day, while the second battle's location is randomized. When fighting enemies in battles and the mines, the amount of enemy damage and health depends on game mode. On V. Easy Mode enemies deal -1 damage. On Hard and V. Hard Mode, enemies can deal -10 to -24 damage.
Item cost varies depending on game mode, and affects shop prices. On Easy and V. Easy mode, items are cheaper. On Normal, Hard, and V. Hard mode, items are pricier. A new feature added in the v1.3 update, gives the player a 15% discount on all items after reaching 5 stars with a shopkeeper, and a 50% discount on healing services after reaching 5 stars with a doctor.
